Adventure. Exploration. Education. The Underground Classroom is a complete, hands-on school program available for 2nd – 6th graders. We are now coming to the end of our 5th year of this program and have had over 13,000 students participate.

Before your tour begins, you will receive in-class material for the teacher and students to review including, activities, learning games, cave formation study material, and a video that we require the students to watch before joining us at the caverns.

When you arrive at Lake Shasta Caverns you will be able to have a real caving experience. Before the journey into the caverns the students will dress in elbow pads, knee pads, and hard hats equipped with lighting. Although the equipment is not necessary, it gives the students an authentic feel.

When inside the caverns, the students will be divided into separate groups so they will discover different aspects of cave exploration. Activities include a formation find, a fossil dig and spelunking.

We also encourage students to purchase souvenir items in our girt shop and to take advantage of our special gemstone pricing for students. For those who do not have time to spare we offer prepackaged souvenir gift bags.
