While You Are Here
A visit to Lake Shasta Caverns is fun and educational for the whole family. A day that includes a cool ride on sparkling Lake Shasta and experiencing one of nature’s most astonishing and beautiful underground creations is only part of the experience! The setting of the Main Chalet and the chalet on the east side of the lake provide a restful, natural spot for picnicking and enjoying nature.
Sandy Creek Mining Sluice

One of the favorite activities of young spelunkers is sluicing for gemstones in our gemstone sluice box! After purchasing a bag of mining rough, the authentic rustic sluice box offers youngsters a great time finding and identifying gemstones or fossils while working in the trough.
Some of the many gemstones that young sluicers find include quartz, peridot, ruby, sapphire, obsidian, moon stone, amethyst, and emerald. Fossils might include amber, trilobite, petrified wood, ammonite, sea urchins, shark teeth and MORE!
Rock Box

Professional cavers must be experienced climbers and explorers. Our new “Rock Box” offers young cavers and climbers a chance to test their skills and to experience cave exploring in a safe environment. The Rock Box features a 6 foot climbing wall, a climbing tunnel, climbing rock and a tree house carved out of oak!
Picnic Area
Families are welcome to bring lunch and enjoy the cool lakeside setting of our picnic area. Refreshments are available in the Snack Bar and parents can relax while children play in the Rock Box or pan for gems at the Sandy Creek Mining box.
Snack Bar and Store
The snack bar and Main Chalet store offer a variety of articles for purchase from refreshing cold drinks and old fashioned hot dogs to cavern mementos.
